Although I watched
Slough in the Sixties at the Dolphin
as a kid, I was at that stage basically
a Fulham supporter due to the roots
of my family. It wasn't until the late
Seventies that I became hooked on Slough
Town. This was due mainly to an old
school friend of mine, namely Steve
Bannester, who while serving as a Slough
Town Committee Member at the time, used
to come round every month selling Lottery
Tickets and eventually persuaded me
to ditch Fulham and become a fully fletched
Slough Supporters. Steve is now a Corporate
Member of the Trust (He has his own
business selling frozen fish.)
I found the involvement
and enthusiasm at my local club far
more enhancing than being herded in
and out of a Football League stadium
every week. I soon joined the Sunday
Morning working groups building terracing
and doing general ground improvements.
I joined the Slough
Town Supporters Association Committee
and became Membership Secretary. I then
became Away Travel Secretary in 1985.
I managed the trips for many FA Cup
ties at Football League grounds which
required convoys of coaches.
I then moved on to
the Football Club Management Committee,
along with several other colleagues
from the Supporters Committee. There
I became part of the Social and Entertainment
Sub-Committee which over four years
became very successful in helping the
club stay afloat with much needed income
through clubhouse activities.
During that time,
I still retained my role on the Supporters
Committee as the Away Travel Secretary,
which apart from a small break in service,
I still carry on today.
Became elected to
the Trust Board in June 2004.
